Tinubu upgrades Nasarawa Poly to specialised mining varsity

President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, to the Federal University of Mining, Engineering and Technology, Nasarawa.

The approval underscores Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening technical education, developing human capital and unlocking Nigeria’s solid minerals potential.

This is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Friday in Abuja.

The approval followed a proposal by Sen. Ahmed Wadada, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, for the establishment of a specialised institution.

Wadada said the university would leverage Nasarawa State’s rich solid minerals endowment and Army, NEMA collaborate as flood threat looms across 33 states Nigeria’s industrialisation drive.

The president said the institution would provide world-class education, research and innovation in mining, engineering, mineral processing, metallurgy, manufacturing and emerging technologies.

It is also expected to produce the skilled workforce needed to drive value addition, technological advancement and sustainable exploitation of Nigeria’s mineral resources.

Tinubu said the conversion aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda of establishing specialised institutions to address strategic national development priorities.

He directed the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other relevant agencies to begin the processes required to implement the conversion.

The president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in education as a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, job creation and national prosperity.
