Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Tuesday thrashed Comoros 5-0 in Ikenne to advance to the third round of the 2028 Olympics women’s football tournament qualifiers.
The Falcons, who won the first leg 2-0 on Friday, will face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the next round of the African qualifying series.
Interim Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side dominated the encounter at the Remo Stars stadium, with Toni Payne scoring twice, while Uchenna Kanu netted a brace and Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty.
Nigeria’s first clear opportunity came in the ninth minute when Gift Monday broke through on goal but failed to beat the Comoros goalkeeper.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was forced off in the 28th minute following a heavy collision, with Folashade Ijamilusi coming on as her replacement.
Payne opened the scoring in the 41st minute after Kanu capitalised on a goalkeeping error and squared the ball for the midfielder to finish from close range.
Eguavoen introduced Blessing Okpe for Monday at the start of the second half, a change that strengthened Nigeria’s attacking play.
In the 58th minute, Ijamilusi delivered a cross into the box for Kanu to head home Nigeria’s second goal.
Kanu thought she had scored again three minutes later, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Payne doubled her tally in the 63rd minute, finishing off a cutback from Okpe, who had beaten two defenders in a run down the flank.
Kanu added her second goal of the match in the 66th minute, heading home another well-placed cross from Ijamilusi to make it 4-0.
The Falcons were awarded a penalty in the 71st minute after Okpe was brought down inside the box, with Ucheibe converting to complete the scoring.
Nigeria made further substitutions in the closing stages, with Jennifer Echegini and Kanu replaced by Suliat Abideen and Shakirat Moshood in the 81st minute.
Fatimah Soliat replaced Payne four minutes from time.
The victory takes the Falcons into the third round of the African qualifying series, where they will face Morocco as they continue their quest for a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
