PDP Changes Timetable Ahead Of Party Primaries

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a change of dates for pre-election activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP, in a statement on Wednesday, jointly signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, said the purchase of forms will now end on 15th May, 2026.

The statement added that the last date for submission of completed forms is now 18th May 2026, while screening of applicants will take place on 19th May, 2026.

According to the adjusted schedule, aspirants for the National and State Assemblies will be screened at their respective states, while Gubernatorial and Presidential Aspirants will be screened in Abuja.

The PDP explained that the change in dates was approved by the Interim National Working Committee based on appeals from stakeholders and aspirants across the country.

Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has disclosed that opposition leaders are still exploring the possibility of presenting a single presidential candidate to face President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.

Speaking during an interview with Arise News on Wednesday, he acknowledged that the exit of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the ADC is a setback not just for the party, but for the entire opposition.

According to him, it’s always better to have a united opposition against the incumbent.

He, however, said that despite the development, the broad opposition coalition is still very much alive and focused on removing Tinubu and the APC at the polls.

According to him, discussions were ongoing among opposition stakeholders to produce a single presidential candidate capable of taking on the ruling party.
