Passenger dies in truck, tricycle collision in Bayelsa

A passenger was on Monday crushed to death following a collision involving a cement truck and a commercial tricycle along the Melford Okilo Road in Yenagoa.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who preferred anonymity, said that personnel of the corps who were on duty along the road witnessed the accident.

Meanwhile some eye witnesses told newsmen that the victim sat on the front seat of the tricycle, an act considered to be a traffic offence.

According to them, the FRSC officials stopped the tricycle rider over the alleged traffic offence, before the truck rammed into the tricycle.

The eyewitnesses further said that but for the intervention of the police, the FRSC officials on duty would have been attacked by angry members of the public who accused them of causing the accident.

When contacted, DSP Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa, told newsmen that thorough investigation would be conducted on the accident.
