Customs seizes contraband worth N79.8m in Adamawa

Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) Adamawa/Taraba Command has intercepted contrabands with an aggregate Duty Paid Value (DPV) worth N79.857 million in Adamawa.

The Comptroller of the Command, Mr Mohammed Tako, disclosed this during a press briefing in Yola on Friday.

Tako said that the success was recorded in the last five weeks of their operations in various flashpoints.

“Over the past five weeks, our officers—guided by actionable intelligence and continuous tactical surveillance—have executed a series of successful anti-smuggling operations across our Area of Responsibility.

“These targeted interventions resulted in the interception and seizure of 673 Jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) of 25 litres each, translated to 16,825 litres.

“501 cartons of foreign bar soaps, 266 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 50kg each, bales and five jumbo sacks of second-hand clothing.

“One Mitsubishi Canter, means of conveyance of the contraband goods,” he said.

According to him, the seizures were in accordance with the service Act, 2023 under sections, 150, 233, 245, 246 and 248 coupled with Schedule 3 ‘Import Prohibition List’ of the Common External Tariff (CET).

Tako appreciated the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Bashir Adeniyi, and his management team for consistently providing the requisite resources and logistical support essential for seamless operations.

He further expressed appreciation to officers who executed these operational interceptions and other stakeholders’ relentless pursuit of economic saboteurs.

Tako also urged the general public to treat security as a collective responsibility by providing timely and credible information regarding suspicious activities within their communities.

“Together, we can safeguard our borders and foster sustainable economic growth,” he said.
