NYSC challenges youth corps members on rural service, community impact

The 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna ended on Tuesday with calls on corps members to promote discipline, community service and national development.

The NYSC Coordinator in Kaduna State, Mrs Efeke Dadaza, made the call and described the orientation as “demanding, yet rewarding for participants and camp officials.”

Dadaza urged corps members to uphold the values learnt in camp and represent the scheme positively at their various places of primary assignment.

She said employers across Kaduna State were prepared to receive members, and urged them to settle down quickly and contribute meaningfully to assigned institutions and communities.

The coordinator encouraged the NYSC members to leave lasting legacies through Community Development Service (CDS) projects capable of improving living conditions in their host communities.

She appreciated the Kaduna State Government for supporting the orientation exercise and providing hospitality for corps members throughout the programme.

Dadaza, however, appealed for improved feeding allowance during orientation and increased monthly stipend to strengthen corps members’ welfare in the state.

She commended collaborating agencies, camp officials and support staff for ensuring successful completion of the orientation.

Earlier, Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State had praised corps members for demonstrating discipline and commitment during camp activities.

Sani, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, said the orientation was to prepare participants as agents of positive change in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.

He said many corps members had discovered their hidden talents and developed skills necessary for future success through camp activities and training sessions.

According to him, most NYSC members will be posted to rural communities where their services are urgently needed, especially in health and education sectors.

He urged them to accept postings in good faith and use the opportunity to uplift underserved communities through impactful service and development initiatives.

Sani encouraged active participation in CDS and the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme for self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kaduna State Government to providing safe and supportive environment for members throughout the service year.

He appealed to public and private employers to support corps members and create opportunities for them to contribute productively within their organisations.
