Former IGP Adamu to Contest Nasarawa Governorship on SDP Platform

Buhari confirms Mohammed Adamu as IGP | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, will contest the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Newsextra24 reports that his campaign team announced this after claims by the Nasarawa State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aliyu Bello, that Adamu had no political party through which he could pursue his governorship ambition.

Adamu’s campaign team said the former police chief had already joined the SDP and would use the party as his platform for the 2027 election.

The development comes months after Adamu left the APC following his defeat in the party’s governorship primary in Nasarawa State.

He resigned from the party in May after the primary, saying the process did not meet his expectations.

Adamu had faulted the conduct of the APC primary, alleging that the process did not properly reflect the wishes of party members at the grassroots.

In a statement issued on Friday, Otaru Douglas, media and strategic communications director of Adamu’s campaign organization, said the former IGP’s move to the SDP was a deliberate decision to seek a new platform.

Adamu’s defection from the APC, following the charade called a primary election, was a strategic move to a credible and people-orientated platform, the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The IGP is contesting the 2027 governorship election, and, by the grace of God and the will of the people of Nasarawa state, he will win convincingly.

“The governorship primary he supervised as state chairman has been widely condemned by party members and stakeholders across the 13 LGAs as lacking transparency, fairness, and internal democracy. We are therefore calling on Dr Aliyu Bello to stay in his political lane and face his party’s dwindling fortunes. No amount of intimidation and media blackmail would alter Adamu’s ambition”, the statement read in part.
