THE police in Ado-Ekiti on Friday arraigned a 24-year-old cashier, Olaofe Morenikeji, over alleged N1.9 million fraud.
Morenikeji, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of fraud, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the change.
The prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence with some others still at large in April at Livinco Electronic Plaza, Irona Street, Ado-Ekiti.
Adeniyi said that the defendant sold some electrical items belonging to her employer valued at N1.9 million and failed to remit the money into the company’s accounts.
He said that the defendant converted the money to her own use, by presenting her personal accounts to customers.
“Monies were paid into her accounts instead of the company’s account without the consent of the Director of Livinco Electronics Plaza,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 302(8b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Adeniyi urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him assemble his witnesses.
The defence counsel, Mr Olawumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that she would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Babalogbon adjourned the case until June 26 for mention.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
