Former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, has urged Northern Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, saying power should return to the region in 2031.
Bello made the call on Saturday in Kano at the Yoruba Political Mobilisation and Empowerment Programme organised by the Leke Abejide Foundation.
The foundation was established by Leke Abejide, member representing Yagba Federal Constituency.
Bello argued that Tinubu should complete eight years in office, following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s two terms.
“As people from Northern Nigeria, we are known for our loyalty and commitment. When we give our word, we stand by it,” he said.
He noted that Buhari had completed eight years before handing over to Tinubu, who had yet to finish his first four-year term.
“President Tinubu assumed power and has not even completed his first four-year term.
“He should be allowed to complete his eight years before power returns to the North because we need political stability in this country.
“What is good for the goose is good for the gander,” Bello said.
The former governor also praised Tinubu’s infrastructure projects, particularly road construction across Northern Nigeria.
He cited the Kano-Abuja Federal Highway as evidence of the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.
“You can now travel from Kano to Abuja without virtually needing to switch on your vehicle’s headlights during the night because of the quality of the road,” he said
Bello claimed that the number of kilometres of roads constructed in Northern Nigeria exceeded those recorded in Southern Nigeria.
“The records are there, and they speak for themselves. I do not need to begin mentioning all the projects because the evidence is visible across the country,” he said.
He also commended Kano Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, saying the state had undergone visible transformation.
“When I arrived in Kano, I could see a lot of positive changes. Government House, where I went to freshen up and prepare for this event, has taken on a new look,” he said.
Bello pledged that non-indigenes in Kano would deliver two million bloc votes for Tinubu, Kabir-Yusuf and other All Progressives Congress candidates.
He also commended the foundation for organising the empowerment programme, saying it would positively impact beneficiaries.
