AAC Elects New National Chairman As Sowore Steps Down

2027: AAC will field presidential candidate, says Sowore

The African Action Congress (AAC) has announced that human rights activist and its 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has stepped down as the party’s National Chairman.

Newsextra24 reports that the party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday shortly after Sowore emerged as its presidential flag bearer during the AAC primaries held in Abuja.

According to the statement, Samuel Ajeigbe has been appointed as the new National Chairman of the party.

Omoyele Sowore has officially stepped down as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress,” the party stated.

The party hereby welcomes Samuel Ajeigbe as the new National Chairman of our great party.”

Sowore’s resignation came hours after he secured the AAC presidential ticket through unanimous endorsement by delegates and party leaders.

He was presented with the party’s flag at the primary amid cheers from supporters drawn from different states.

Speaking after accepting the nomination, Sowore said the AAC was founded to build a “new Nigeria” free from corruption, insecurity and bad governance.

He commended party members for their commitment despite political pressure and economic hardship.

During the event, Sowore criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of incompetence and political manipulation.

He also dismissed claims that over 10 million APC members voted for President Bola Tinubu during the party’s presidential primary.

There is no way APC can have 10 million people as members,” Sowore said.

“I can guarantee you that APC cannot boast of 10,000 members.”

Political observers say Sowore’s decision to relinquish the chairmanship may allow the party to separate its administrative structure from his presidential campaign.
