The All Progressives Congress (APC) has turned Kaduna into the centre of its early mobilisation efforts for the 2027 presidential election, with thousands of supporters gathering at Ranchers Bees Stadium for the flag-off of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Party faithful, support groups and political stakeholders from across the country converged on the venue, dressed in campaign-branded T-shirts and caps bearing the President’s image and APC insignia.
The gathering was characterised by singing, dancing, drumming and chants in support of Tinubu as party members awaited the arrival of the President and other senior APC leaders.
Security personnel were deployed to strategic locations across Kaduna metropolis, while access to the stadium was restricted and screening arrangements put in place to manage the anticipated crowd.
The rally brought together APC governors, members of the National Assembly, party executives, political appointees and support groups from across the federation.
The choice of Kaduna, a major political centre in the Northwest, underscores the importance of the region to the ruling party’s electoral calculations as Tinubu seeks a second term in office.
Support groups step up mobilisation.
The campaign flag-off follows a solidarity march held in Kaduna on Friday by supporters affiliated with the Presidential Campaign Council’s Support Groups Mobilisation Directorate.
The procession moved through parts of the state capital, from the Savannah Bank area to the Kaduna State Government House, where Governor Uba Sani received the delegation.
The participants subsequently returned to the APC state secretariat.
The organisers said the march was intended to demonstrate their commitment to mobilising grassroots support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Silas Ali Agara, Director of the Support Groups Mobilisation Directorate, said the groups were committed to strengthening grassroots engagement and communicating the administration’s policies and programmes to Nigerians.
The mobilisation effort forms part of the APC’s broader strategy to consolidate its support base and coordinate the activities of affiliated groups ahead of the elections.
The Kaduna State Government said arrangements had been made to ensure the safety of participants and the orderly conduct of the rally.
Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe, who chairs the Local Organising Committee, said preparations were at an advanced stage following inspections of facilities at the venue.
The arrangements included screening before entry into the stadium and security deployments around major roads and strategic locations.
The measures were intended to manage the expected influx of supporters and dignitaries from different parts of the country.
Beyond the mobilisation of party faithful, the rally provides the APC with an opportunity to present its political message and seek renewed support for Tinubu’s administration.
The campaign is, however, unfolding against public concerns over the rising cost of living, insecurity, unemployment and the effects of the federal government’s economic reforms.
These issues are likely to feature prominently in the wider contest as political parties seek to persuade voters that they have credible solutions to the country’s economic and security challenges.
The Kaduna rally is therefore an early test of the APC’s capacity to coordinate its national and grassroots structures, project a unified campaign message and sustain enthusiasm for the President’s re-election bid.
Attention will focus on Tinubu’s address and any policy commitments or campaign pledges announced at the event as the contest for the 2027 presidency gathers momentum.
