Why I want to represent Surulere at Lagos Assembly — Odunuga-Bakare

Mrs Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, APC aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Surulere Constituency I seat.

Mrs Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, an APC aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Surulere Constituency I seat, says she wants to represent the constituency to offer impactful representation centred on the growing needs of the people.

Odunuga-Bakare, a lawyer and former Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Housing, said this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.

She said she was passionate about the progress of the constituency and the well-being of its people.

According to her, the constituency requires a representative who can interact with the people at the grassroots, understand their needs and attract more development to the area.

Odunuga-Bakare, who once served as Leader of the Surulere Legislative Council, said she had the competence, capacity and grassroots reach to serve the constituency effectively.

“I am seeking the constituency seat because I am passionate about Surulere and its people.

“My mission is to offer impactful legislative representation that centres on the growing needs of the people of Surulere in terms of security, education access, sports, welfare for the elderly, empowerment, entrepreneurship and infrastructural development.

“I am running for a better constituency, to promote peaceful and sustainable coexistence, unity, welfare and wellbeing of all constituents,” she said.

The aspirant thanked the people of Surulere, party leaders and stakeholders for their support for her aspiration.

She also appreciated the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila; Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Mr Sulaiman Yusuf, and other party leaders for their endorsements.

According to her, she and her team are encouraged by the show of support.

“I am Surulere inside out. I am for the people. I will serve the constituency well if given the opportunity.

“I am counting on the support of our party members across all wards to emerge as the candidate of our great constituency on March 20.

“I will work for the great people of Surulere and work with them if given the mandate.

“I will intervene in infrastructure, help the elderly, empower the youth, support businesses and connect regularly with constituents through town hall meetings.

“I will champion legislation that impacts lives and work for a better Surulere. I am counting on the support of the people to serve,” she said.

Odunuga-Bakare urged her supporters not to be distracted, but to remain focused on working toward victory at the party primary and the general elections.

Newsextra24 reports that Mr Desmond Elliot, an actor-turned-politician, currently represents the constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly and he is seeking a fourth-term at the Assembly.
