Warri Refinery Contractors Protest Delayed Payment of Certified Contracts

Warri Refinery protest

Contractors associated with Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) Limited, located in Ekpan, Delta State, have expressed their disappointment regarding the non-payment for contracts completed since 2024.

The contractors, according to them, borrowed money to fulfil these various jobs, and stated that the lack of payment is negatively impacting their financial situation. They conveyed this concern in a heartfelt message to the company’s management.

In a letter signed by Pius Abolagha and Felix Oyowe, the contractors expressed their frustration over contracts completed according to specifications and certified by the refinery’s authorities.

They have decided to organise a planned peaceful protest to highlight the challenges they are facing and the hardships imposed by the WRPC management.

They reminded the management that “banking institutions do not fund contracts from WRPC, “Yet, we went extra mile to source for fund for the execution of these contracts”, said the contractors.

“Our financiers are no longer comfortable with us and are threatening to sell our properties, which we used as collateral since our post-dated cheques issued have rolled over severally”.

“The Refinery authorities should pay us and save us from the embarrassment of inability to pay our children’s school fees as most of them are now out of school.”

Several efforts made by our correspondent to get the reaction of the management proved abortive as of the time of filling this report.
