A Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara, has adjourned a suit challenging the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Zamfara North Senatorial District to June 25, 2026.
An aggrieved aspirant, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, filed the suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC and the party’s senatorial candidate for Zamfara North, Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, over alleged irregularities in the primary election.
When the matter came up for mention on Tuesday, proceedings could not go beyond that stage due to the absence of INEC and the APC, who are listed as defendants in the case.
The presiding judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, subsequently adjourned the matter until June 25 for further mention.
Shinkafi is challenging the conduct and outcome of the APC National Assembly primary election that produced Senator Kaura as the party’s candidate for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.
Speaking with journalists after the court session, counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister Bello Galadi, said his client was seeking judicial intervention over what he described as a flawed primary election process.
“We are in court seeking justice regarding the primary election that produced the third defendant, Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura. Our position is that due process was not followed, and we are asking the court to set aside the outcome,” Galadi said.
Also speaking, counsel to the third defendant, Barrister J.C. Shaka, said the adjournment would provide an opportunity for all parties to comply with the necessary procedural requirements.
According to him, the parties are expected to file their respective responses before the next adjourned date.
The court is expected to continue proceedings in the matter on June 25.
