
THE authorities of Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, have debunked media reports suggesting that its late student “had stab wounds”.
Ben Agande, Head, Corporate Affairs and communications of the institution said “while we at Veritas University extend our deep condolences to the parents and family members of our late student, we want to caution our colleagues in the media to desist from sensational reporting.”
Agande stated further: “However, we want to clarify as follows:
“The late student had no stab wound whatsoever before his evacuation from our medical facility to a bigger mortuary.
“The University will fully cooperate with the police and all relevant authorities as they carry out their investigations.
“The University is willing and ready to bear the cost of autopsy that may be carried out.”
Recall that a 100-level computer science student of Veritas University Abuja, identified as Joshua Èjuojo Daniel-Ejigbo, had reportedly died while exercising at the school’s gymnasium.
A report by SaharaReporters had said that the deceased was exercising when he started foaming in the mouth and subsequently slumped around 9 pm on Tuesday.
The University authorities reportedly called the dead student’s father to inform him about the incident around 11 pm on Tuesday.
Dr. Sanni Bil-hissan who spoke on behalf of the University, at that intersection, had confirmed the incident on Wednesday in a chat with SaharaReporters
However, a human rights lawyer, Mr Deji Adeyanju, who is representing the family told SaharaReporters that the parents of the deceased student suspected foul play and gross negligence.
“The parents of the deceased student suspect foul play and gross negligence,” he said.
