Uniosun students on rampage, shut down Osogbo over death of colleague

Hundreds of Students of Osun State University, Osogbo has gone on rampage and shut down major roads of Osogbo, the state capital Osogbo protesting the death of their 400 level collegeau, Oluwafemi Timilehin Shonibare, who was grusomely murdered after his dis-appearance for about ten days.

His mutilated body was found near a bush at Jafaria street in Oke-Baale area of Osogbo, the Oaun State capital.

For hours, roads leading to Olaiya junction from Okefia via Alekuwodo, Ayetoro via Old Garage and Oja-Oba via Okebale were shutdown by the protesters.

Motorists were held in heavy trafick as the protesters created bon fire and barricades in major junctions along the major roads.

The protesters, who appeared in black T shirt and jeans, looted some shops and a super market inside a filling statioj at Olaiya Juctiinnand harrassed many motorists before the anti-riot armed pokice came to disperse them and dislodged their barricades.

The State Police Command  on Tuesday night paraded three suspects in connection with the murder of the deceased.

The Osun Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufimihan Adeoye, said the suspects, Sakariyahu Abdulrafiu, a 19-year herbalist apprentice, and two of his friends, Ayuba Ibrahim (24) and Yusuff Kareem (18) carried out the crime on June 26, at about 7:30pm, at Oke-Bale Area of Osogbo.

According to him, the suspects conspired and killed one Timilehin Shonibare, a 400 level Micro-Biology of University of Osun, by hitting him on the head with a mortar- pestle.

Adeoye said subsequently after the killing, his head and his two wrists/palms were cut off and his remains was dumped in the bush.

He added the case of a missing person was reported to the police by friends of the deceased victim, on June 27 at 7:45pm and that the information and support provided by the victim’s friends led to the arrest of the suspects.

Adeoye said the investigation by the police led to the arrest of the suspectdls while he disclosed that police are on the trail of one of them, who is at at large.

The police boss said the head and wrists/palms of the dead student (roasted in a black clay pot) were recovered from Abdulrafiu when he was arrested and that his confessional statement led to the arrest of his accomplices.

He said the remains of the victim, had been recovered, removed and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, adding that the suspects were being processed and would be prosecuted accordingly.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved students on  Tuesday set ablaze the residence of the parents of one of the suspects at Oke-Baale, Osogbo.
