Top 6, 2020 Most Liked Posts On Instagram

The end-of-year top five is dominated by tragic losses, with football star Lionel Messi’s Maradona appreciation post coming in third with 16.4 million likes, behind the death announcement featured on Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman’s official account in August, garnering 19.1 million likes.

Basketball superstar LeBron James came in fifth with 15.5 million hits as he mourned the loss of sporting great Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash in January.

“There’s so much more I want to say but just can’t right now because I can’t get through it!” LeBron wrote.

“Until we meet again my brother!!” he added.

Meanwhile, Kylie Jenner made four appearances in the annual top 10, with her birthday dedication to her baby daddy, rapper Travis Scott, ranking the highest at four with 16 million likes.

And there was also a lot of love shown to Ariana Grande on 20 December, as she celebrated the news of her engagement to Dalton Gomez.

A slideshow of photos of the couple, and the pop superstar’s pearl and diamond engagement ring, attracted 15.4 million likes to take sixth place.

The Juventus superstar, who is currently the most-followed person on the photo-sharing app with 250 million fans, paid homage to Maradona in November, following the news of his death from a heart attack, and the touching note struck a chord with 19.7 million devotees.

2. Chadwick Boseman

The heartbreaking news of Chadwick Boseman’s death shocked fans in August, revealing the actor’s four-year private battle with colon cancer. A long post confirming the Black Panther star’s passing disclosed the extent to which Boseman continued to work despite his worsening health, and as the second most-liked post on Instagram this year, it serves as a reminder that we are all incredibly lucky to have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, his abundant talents on and off screen. RIP.

3. Lionel Messi

We lost another sports legend this year, after one of football’s greatest players Diego Maradona died on November 25. Countless across the globe mourned the Argentine star, including current football superstars like Lionel Messi, who shared a tribute photo of himself and Maradona after the news broke.

4. Kylie Jenner

In her final appearance on the list, Jenner pays tribute to Travis Scott on his birthday, calling him the “daddy of the year” while sharing a series of photos of him with their daughter Stormi. “i’m slowly but surely starting to accept the fact that storm is a daddy’s girl,” Jenner wrote.

5. LeBron James

We knew 2020 would be a tough year after the sudden death of basketball icon Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, who lost their lives in a helicopter accident at the beginning of the year. LeBron James’ tribute to his late mentor and friend following the tragic loss is still heartbreaking. “There’s so much more I want to say but just can’t right now because I can’t get through it!” James wrote in his post, sharing a series of photos with him and Bryant. “Until we meet again my brother!!”
