A 27-year-old man, Lateef Akeem, who allegedly stole iron rods valued at N120,000, on Thursday, was docked before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Moyosola Adesola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 15 at 06:45 a.m., at Ase Osi, off Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti.
She alleged that the defendant stole two iron rods valued at N120,000 belonging to one Mr Anu Omotosho.
Adesola said the offence contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
She urged the court to adjourn the case to enable her study the file and assemble her witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Jan. 24 for hearing.
