The Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Aug. 15 Osun election, Najeem Salaam, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible poll that will make votes count.
Salaam made the call while speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo, stressing the need for an election that is free, fair and widely accepted as credible.
He said democracy could only thrive when the votes of the electorate truly count.
The former Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly also urged the electoral body to provide a level playing field for all political parties and candidates.
Speaking on his plans, Salaam said he would prioritise agriculture, employment, infrastructure and security if elected.
He said agriculture would form the backbone of his administration’s economic agenda.
According to him, his government would invest in agricultural production to position the state as a major supplier of food and agricultural produce across Nigeria.
Salaam also pledged to tackle unemployment by creating job opportunities, including employing 20,000 workers within his first 100 days in office.
He added that he would construct 10 kilometres of roads in each local government area to improve infrastructure and boost socio-economic development.
The ADC candidate assured residents that he would prioritise the security of lives and property if elected, noting that a peaceful environment is essential for growth and investment.
He said he would operate an open-door policy to deepen democratic governance and promote inclusiveness in decision-making.
Salaam urged residents to come out en masse on election day and vote freely without intimidation or coercion.
