THE National Orientation Agency (NOA) plans to re-orientate at least three million Nigerians in each state on President Bola Tinubu’s policies for national advancement.
The enlightenment programme, expected to begin in the third quarter, was announced by NOA’s Ogun directorate during a news conference in Abeokuta on Thursday.
NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the agency is responsible for sensitising citizens on government policies and activities nationwide.
Issa-Onilu noted that in recent times, NOA’s media platforms and partners for re-orientation had grown to 185, in addition to market and motor park rallies.
Represented by Deputy Director at NOA Headquarters, Mrs Aninta Ukamaka, Issa-Onilu highlighted focus areas, including government policies, the Nigerian Identity Project, and respect for national symbols.
He added that other areas included national security awareness, flood mitigation, and value reorientation programmes in schools to strengthen civic responsibility among young Nigerians.
Issa-Onilu expressed concern over declining respect for national symbols, particularly among youths, stressing the urgent need to revive patriotism and civic responsibility.
He also condemned “sign-out extreme practices” in tertiary institutions, describing them as harmful to the moral upbringing and values of young people.
On education, he informed students about the Federal Government’s Students Loan Scheme under the National Economic Reconstruction Fund (NERFUND).
He assured beneficiaries that repayment would only begin two years after graduation and securing employment.
