Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised two terrorists and arrested eight suspects in separate operations in Katsina and Plateau.
An operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday said the operations were conducted between Sept. 14 and Sept. 16.
Under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the report said troops of 35 Battalion, deployed at FOB Malumfashi, neutralised two terrorists along the Sayaya-Karaduwa road in Matazu LGA of Katsina.
It said the troops recovered 10 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, camouflage uniform, motorcycle, cutlass, SF cap and cannabis from the terrorists.
The report revealed that troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) also arrested six suspected illegal miners at Agindi Village mining site in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau.
It added that troops recovered two diggers, shovels, cutlasses, a fetcher and five mobile phones from the suspects.
“Similarly, troops of Sector 8 OPEP raided a suspected cattle rustlers’ hideout at Mangun Village, Mangu Local Government Area, arresting two suspects.
“The troops recovered two mobile phones, illicit drugs and N28,755 cash from the suspects.
“Meanwhile, troops of Sector 5 OPEP responded to an attack on an illegal mining site around Gwande, Bokkos Local Government Area.
“The troops engaged fleeing criminals and recovered a motorcycle bearing a local vigilante identification card,” it said.
The report said the troops had apprehended a suspect during a subsequent raid on a residence linked to the incident.
According to the report, the suspect, identified as the elder brother of the fleeing suspect, was evacuated to hospital but later confirmed dead.
The report also disclosed that troops of 14 Field Engineering Regiment, with the DSS and local vigilantes, arrested the owner of a fabricated pistol at Mmiata-Anam, Anambra West LGA.
It said the suspect, arrested after the pistol was recovered on Sept. 7, was handed over to 82 Provost Company.
“In Rivers, troops of 6 Division Garrison and NSCDC personnel raided two suspected pipeline vandals’ camps in Bonny LGA.
“The suspects fled, abandoning three local boats loaded with vandalised pipeline sections, as well as tools allegedly used for pipeline vandalism,” it added.
