NSCDC hails peaceful conduct of senatorial by-election in Edo

THE Edo Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commended the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s by-election in the central senatorial district of the state.

The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Gbenga Agun, gave the commendation while assessing the conduct of the exercise.

Agun, who personally monitored the polling units across Esan South-West, Esan Central, Esan North-East and Esan South-East Local Government Areas, said that the corps and other security agencies worked in synergy to maintain law and order.

He noted adequate security measures contributed majorly to the smooth process.

The NSCDC boss, who moved from one polling unit to another, said he interacted with voters, assuring them of their safety and protection of election materials.

He said that personnel were strategically deployed to polling units and collation centres to forestall disruptions and ensure a secured  environment.

“We have deployed our men and we are working closely with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful process.

“The turnout may not be massive, but voters are casting their ballots without fear,” Agun said.
