The FCT Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
The group stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at its 2026 Igbo Nmanma Celebration, Excellence Awards and unveiling of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society, attended by more than 4,000 people.
The event brought together Igbo leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, traditional leaders, politicians and other members of the community.
Speaking at the event, Sen. Rochas Okorocha, former Imo governor, said Ndigbo had contributed to economic development and strengthened relationships across communities.
Okorocha said the presence of Igbos across Nigeria and other parts of the world had enabled them to contribute to development while building relationships with other communities.
“Everywhere you go, you find an Igbo man building bridges of friendship and helping brotherhood,” he said.
He called for greater unity and cooperation among Nigerians and conveyed greetings from the Igbo community to Tinubu and his wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
Okorocha said Ndigbo remained interested in participating in the affairs of the country and strengthening relationships among Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said she had developed strong relationships with members of the Igbo community.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim said political participation was driven by interests, urging Nigerians and various communities to work together to advance their shared interests.
“We work together, we win together,” she said.
Former Commissioner at the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Ginika Tor, commended Ndigbo for their contributions to national development.
Tor said the recognition of distinguished members of the community was based on their achievements and contributions rather than ethnicity.
“We are honouring some Igbos here, not because I am Igbo, but because we want to appreciate their best,” she said.
She said the celebration provided an opportunity to promote unity, preserve cultural identity, and reflect on the community’s past, present and future.
The event featured the Igbo Nmanma Excellence Awards, with recipients recognised for their contributions to the community and society.
It also featured the unveiling of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society, aimed at promoting economic cooperation among members.
The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT Chapter, Chief Andrew Afulukwe, appreciated the Federal Government and FCT Administration for supporting the event.
Afulukwe said Igbos in Abuja were contributing to investment and business activities in the FCT, while calling for sustained peace and cooperation among Nigerians.
He said the community remained committed to peaceful coexistence and the development of Abuja and Nigeria.
The celebration ended with prayers for the Igbo community, the FCT and Nigeria, as participants reaffirmed their commitment to cultural identity, unity and national development.
