The Director-General of NDE, Mr Silas Agara, disclosed this during the Resettlement of Beneficiaries under the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative on Tuesday in Yola.
Agara, who was represented by the Director of Procurement, Malam Ibrahim Abani, stated that the directorate had successfully trained 33,692 unemployed youths, women, and persons with disabilities in various vocational skills.
He explained that the beneficiaries received training in a range of skills, including entrepreneurship, business management, and agricultural skills, among others.
“The 33,692 beneficiaries were drawn from across the 36 states, including FCT Abuja,” he said.
He further stated that the first batch of 5,532 beneficiaries would be provided with loans and starter packs nationwide to help them establish their own businesses.
According to him, the employment initiative is built on three core pillars: skills development, resettlement, and job creation.
He noted that the programme was launched on 6 December, with training commencing on 9 December in various states.
The Acting State Coordinator of NDE in Adamawa, Malam Nuhu Bello, stated that 1,889 beneficiaries had been trained under the initiative in the state, with 389 selected for resettlement in the first batch.
Bello commended the master trainers for their cooperation and contributions to the programme’s success.
He also expressed confidence in the beneficiaries’ ability to apply their newly acquired skills and urged them to share their knowledge with the wider community.
“The core mandate of this initiative is to strengthen job creation and self-reliance among youths and women, ensuring employment opportunities within our communities.
“I charge you all to make judicious use of the items and financial support provided for your chosen careers,” Bello said.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Helen Jonah, expressed gratitude to the NDE and pledged that the recipients would use the starter packs and financial support responsibly, in accordance with the programme’s guidelines.
