Berlin and U.S tech giant Nvidia have agreed to deepen cooperation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in German industry, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the company’s chief executive Jensen Huang said.
They said this on Monday on the sidelines of the first Invest in Germany summit in Berlin.
The pair said that the combination of Germany’s engineering with cutting-edge AI technology would help the country’s economy in the long term.
According to them, the partnership is intended to speed up the digital transformation of German industry, especially small and medium-sized businesses, and to secure the country’s sovereignty.
Merz said Germany was acting from a position of strength current geopolitical and economic challenges.
He urged companies to open their valuable industrial data for AI applications to maintain the competitiveness the German manufacturing, mechanical engineering and automotive industry.
The chancellor stressed the strategic importance of preserving Germany’s industrial base, which he sees as a decisive advantage over other economies.
Nvidia has invested nearly 1 billion dollars in German.
Huang, has led Nvidia since 1993, highlighted the company’s confidence in Germany as a location.
According to the company, Nvidia had invested nearly 1 billion dollars in Germany in 2025 and holds stakes in numerous start-ups and established companies.
Huang argued that data should be treated as a national resource and used domestically to develop Germany’s own “national intelligence,” rather than being exported for others to exploit.
The Nvidia chief executive also warned people and businesses in Germany against giving up their knowledge and cultural values, only to buy them back later as intelligence.
Instead, they are responsible; AI should help supplement and scale the existing expertise of German engineers rather than replace it.
