Merkel Bows Out After 16 Years, As Olaf Scholz Takes Over As New German Chancellor

Olaf Scholz has been sworn in by Bärbel Bas, president of the German Bundestag.

He took the oath of office while omitting the optional final clause “So help me God,” unlike Merkel, but like the last Social Democratic Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.
