INSPECTOR General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has alleged that foreign mercenaries are behind the organization of the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for August 1st to 10th.
Addressing reporters in Abuja on Friday, Egbetokun cited intelligence reports indicating that foreign operatives are involved in the planning of the protest. He urged Nigerians to be cautious and carefully consider their participation in any protest group.
Egbetokun praised those who have spoken out against the protest at this critical time, noting concerns about the potential for violence. He explained that while some groups advocate for peaceful demonstrations, others are promoting protests with underlying violent intentions.
The IG emphasized that Nigeria has a history of violent protests and suggested that there is no need to look abroad to understand the risks of unchecked demonstrations. He acknowledged the valid concerns of those who have distanced themselves from the protest due to fears of manipulation by external forces. The police chief reiterated the need for caution and advised Nigerians to thoroughly evaluate their involvement in the planned protest.
