The officers of the Edo State Police Command have been trained rigorously and are now being trained on how to effectively use weapons and other skills.
ACP Habib Rabiu, the Commander of Mopol 5 who is in charge of the training, stated that the goal of the exercise was to increase the officers’ capacity and professionalism in their day-to-day operations.
He claimed that the training which focuses on physical conditioning, arms handling, and risk management, would improve the force’s ability to respond to problems and put an end to unintentional discharges.
He said, “To ensure effective weapon handling, the Edo state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, announced personnel of the command should undergo the training so that when they go back to their stations, they would be able to guide their stations effectively and respond to distress calls professionally.”
“At the end of the training, the command wants to see changes in the trainees’ way of handling guns, combing the bush for criminals, and other safety measures that would enhance police-community relationships.”
Correspondingly, the command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the command also held training sessions for senior officers on topics such as police work, the law, relationships with residents, and police informants.
According to him, the workshop, which was organized by the command in partnership with the state criminal department, will improve the officers’ knowledge and ability to interact with the general population.
