Arsenal’s Ben White ruled out for rest of season

Arsenal defender Ben White will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury that is also expected to end his hopes of featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ben White, 28, was forced off during the first half of Arsenal’s 1-0 win away to West Ham United on Sunday and later left London Stadium wearing a knee brace.

Arsenal confirmed the setback in an official statement, revealing the defender has sustained a “significant medial ligament injury” that will keep him out of the club’s final two league fixtures and the UEFA Champions League final on May 30.

The statement read: “Our medical team are now managing Ben’s recovery and rehabilitation programme, with everyone fully focused on supporting the aim of Ben being ready for the start of our pre-season preparations.”

White has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season and has started Arsenal’s last five matches, although he has only been named in the starting line-up for nine league games.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain on the brink of history. Victories against Burnley and Crystal Palace would seal Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years. They are also preparing for their first Champions League final in two decades, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.

With White targeting a return for pre-season, he is unlikely to recover in time for the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. England manager Thomas Tuchel is due to name his squad on May 22.
