The Federal Capital Police Command on Tuesday said it has invited the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Michael Akabogu for questioning over a petition alleging that he forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge Certificate.
“There was a petition written to the Commissioner of Police against him for NYSC certificate forgery, which we are investigating and we also invited him”, the FCT Police said.
The petition had noted that the NSITF MD discharge certificate with the number A030544, is a forged document resulting in the Police requesting the NYSC authorities to provide clarifications on Akabogu’s certificate.
The NYSC response was contained in a letter with reference number NYSC/CCD/VER/10/S to.1/VOL/07 addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police and the Divisional Police Headquarters, Utako Division, FCT Command, Abuja.
The letter signed by Ibrahim A. M. Acting Director, Corps Certification, said, “Your letter Re: Case of forgery involving a Corps member, Akabogu Michael C. with State Code No. OG/FUTO/91/23402
“Your letter Ref No: CR:3000/FCT/UT/VOL.10/69 dated 3rd November 2022 on the above subject I refer, please.
“I wish to inform you that the Certificate of National Service belonging to Akabugu Michael C with Certificate number A030544 forwarded for verification was not issued by the NYSC.
“However, you are requested to retrieve the original Certificate for onward submission to the NYSC.”
FCT Police PRO, DSP Josephine Adeh added, “A discreet investigation on the complaint is ongoing. When we get such letters the police has to investigate, that is the essence of the invitation to the MD to come and explain, they said the certificate is forged.”
