Alleged Attack: Sowore Accused Of Threatening Ekiti Restaurant Owner Over CCTV Footage

Court dismisses Sowore’s "no-case" submission, orders activist to open defence in cybercrimes case

The owner of Tawakalitu Restaurant, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Ms. Miriam Bakare Anike, has alleged threats and blackmail from Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), over demand for CCTV footage of his alleged attack.

Sowore was said to be pressuring the restaurant owner to release the footage to him or risk having her business “destroyed.”

The restaurant owner reportedly told him that the CCTV was faulty before the incident and was due for repair.

It would be recalled that Sowore had alleged that on October 30, 2026, he was attacked and kidnapped by unknown persons allegedly sponsored by the Ekiti State government, accusing security agencies of providing logistics for his attackers. He has maintained the claim on his social media handles and several media platforms.

The Nigeria Police Force, however, in a statement, said the incident was triggered by an “altercation” in the restaurant.

Police said they evacuated Sowore and some injured supporters to the police hospital in Ado-Ekiti for treatment, which Sowore also confirmed. The Force dismissed claims of abduction, saying some suspects have been arrested to aid investigation.

A source close to the AAC candidate said Sowore has continued to demand CCTV footage and other recordings from the restaurant staff.

“Sowore has been making several attempts to coerce the proprietress of Tawakalitu Restaurant to release the footage and other recordings of the incident by her workers to him. He has severally threatened to ‘destroy’ her restaurant business if she fails to oblige him, to which the lady has maintained that the CCTV was faulty before the incident,” the source said.
