A 28-year-old man, Ojo Ajibade, on Friday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cocoa pods.
Ajibade, whose address was not given, was charged with unlawful entry.
The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 18 at Igbalaye community, off Afao road in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
He alleged that the defendant unlawfully entered into a cocoa farm belonging to Apanisile Samuel, Mustapha Olayinka and Ayo Tijani, and harvested their cocoa pods valued at N600, 000.
Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 23 for hearing.
