2 Men in court Over Alleged Breach of Peace, Assault

TWO men, Lamidi Abdulbakir, 20, and Ogunleye Oluwafemi, 34, were on Wednesday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of peace and assault.

The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a three-count charge bordering on breach of peace, assault and attempt to steal.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on May 31, in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

Adeniyi said that the defendants indecently assaulted one Miss Fagbemigbe Destiny.

He also alleged that the defendants attempted to commit felony to wit stealing.

He told the court that the defendants approached the complainant and asked for her contact, when she refused to give them her contact, they suddenly assaulted her and tried to steal from her.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 249, 360 and 509 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Hassan Salawu, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N20,000 with one surety each in like sum.

Ajibade said the surety must be a Chieftaincy title holder or an executive member of the landlord association.

She adjourned the case till June 30, for hearing.
