World U-20 Athletics Championship: Udodi Wins Gold At Men’s 200m

 

Nigeria has added another Gold at the World U-20 Athletics Championship holding in Nairobi, Kenya.

Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike (born Jan 29, 2003) won the men’s 200m event (20.21 seconds) setting a National U-20 record & Personal Best, in the process.

The 200m event in the Heat One saw him mark his debut for Nigeria with a Personal Best of 20.47 seconds to take the Heat.

Onwuzurike who came into the tournament with a PB of 20.78 seconds, also had the best qualifying time in the S/final, setting a new Championship record, with 20.13 seconds return time.

The Detroit-born Udodi beat Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo (20.38 secs) who had earlier won gold in the 100m event yesterday, South Africa’s Swiesipho Dambile (SB-20.48secs), Uganda’s Tarsis Orogot (20.57 secs), Denmark’s Tazana Mikkel Kamanga-Dyrbak (20.58 secs), Cuba’s Shainer Rengifo Montoya (21.01 secs) who took bronze in the 100m event earlier, Israel’s Blessing Akawasi Afrifah (21.03), and Poland’s Jakub Pietrusa (25.62 secs).
