The police on Monday arraigned an unemployed woman, Sharon Mohammed, before a Dutse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja over alleged possession of illicit drugs.
Mohammed, who resides in Kubwa, is standing trial on a one-count charge bordering on public nuisance.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr Babajide Olanipekun said that the offence was contrary to Section 198 of the Penal Code.
Olanipekun told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 4.
He alleged that on the said date, the police found Mohammed peddling and conveying illicit drugs, popularly known as “laud”, in the Federal Housing area of Kubwa while riding on a motorcycle.
He said the defendant acted in a manner that endangered public safety.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation and interrogation, Mohammed failed to give a satisfactory account of her actions.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Evelyn Dara, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Dara ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and possess a reliable means of identification.
She adjourned the matter until Sept. 29 for hearing.
