Woman arraigned for alleged misappropriation of N6.7m

A 35-year-old woman, Abigail Moses, was on Thursday arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court, for alleged misappropriation of company’s N6.7m.

Moses, a resident of Kabala West Kaduna, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Leo Chidi, told the court that the matter was reported on April 28 at Gabasawa Police Station by one Kingsley Vincent of Jos Road in Kaduna.

According to Chidi, the defendant, a secretary at Vincent & Sons Trading Company Nigeria Ltd, located in Kaduna, misappropriated N6.7 million being proceeds from sales.

The prosecutor stated that during the company’s auditing, it was discovered that the defendant misappropriated the said sum without giving satisfactory account to the company.

Chidi said that the offences contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m and two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must present evidence of three years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.

Emmanuel added that one of the surety must be a blood relation to the defendant and he adjourned the case until June 25 for hearing.
