Unemployed Arraigned For Alleged Theft Of Toyota Camry

A 53-year-old unemployed man, Tola Olaniyan,  on Tuesday appeared  before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly  stealing  a Toyota Camry worth N1.5 million.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Olaniyan, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred by the police.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant while the other must be a landed property owner within the court’s jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until July 16  for substantive hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Sikiru Opaleye, told the court that the defendant conspired with one person to commit the  stealing.

Opaleye alleged that the defendant, on Dec. 3, 2023, at  11.00 a.m on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Estate in Ibadan,  stole a Toyota Camry marked SMK 929 GB, in conspiracy with another person.

Opaleye said that the vehicle, worth N1.5 million, belonged to one Mr Felix Adediran.

According to him,  the offence is contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 (10A) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State  2000. (NAN)
