FORMER President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement regarding the outcome of the recent governorship election in Bayelsa State has drawn criticism from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva.

Sylva expressed his disapproval of Jonathan’s comment on the election, describing it as unfortunate.
The reelection of Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the governorship election held last Saturday was celebrated by Jonathan, who mentioned that Diri’s victory would enhance the security situation in the state.
Jonathan went on to say that he would have relocated his mother to Abuja if Diri had lost the election.
In response, Sylva questioned the authenticity of the former president’s statement, citing a comment by Wole Soyinka and stating that a hippopotamus cannot be removed from a swamp.
On X, Sylva posted: “Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate. I sincerely hope he was misquoted.
“Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: “you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus.”
