PROF. Sadiyat Sani-Daura, Director/Chief Executive of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) says teachers’ professional development remains her pivotal focus.
Sani-Daura made the commitment in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Institute’s headquarters in Kaduna.
The DG recalled that her background as an educationist informed her interest in teacher’s development hence her acceptance of her present position.
“I am driven by the passion to contribute my quota to the education sector, especially in teacher’s quality.
“In education, there are certain components that can not be compromised, if you want excellence.
“You need the physical structure to be in place that is, the classrooms, the lecture halls and then, the facilities.
“Now, we have the jet age of computers so e-learning has to be put in place to go with the current global education practices.
“Another is the implementers, that is, the teachers who must be specially trained with the ever changing needs and demands from all sections of the education sector,” she said
The NTI boss added: “Students themselves keep changing as their mindsets keep changing because they are one of a kind.
“It’s either they’re left behind or if you’re not careful as a teacher, they’ll take over the classroom.
“So the teacher has to be current, specially trained with attention focused on teacher quality and professionalism.
“So, teacher professionalism development is our focus”.
Sani-Daura said that her position as the DG of NTI was a privilege to contribute her quota to the development of education which according to her, was key.
She said that NTI objective was to implement the mission, vision and mandate of the Institute.
“The vision is to enhance the professional skills of serving teachers for high quality education delivery at the primary and secondary educational levels with the view to uplifting the standard of education system in the country.
“Also, is to update and upgrade teachers’ knowledge and skills in curriculum implementation while instilling in them the virtues of dedication, loyalty, commitment, discipline and resourcefulness,” Sani-Daura added.
