Meanwhile, the Senate president has said that the executive and legislative arms of government must collaborate to lift Nigerians out of poverty. Addressing senators during the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, June 2, in Abuja, Lawan said there was serious poverty in the land and that only concerted efforts by the two arms of government could address the issue.
He said he had been meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on the challenges facing the country and that he would continue to do that in his position as the Senate president.
Lawan on Thursday, July 4 assured Nigerians of a conclusive reform in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, saying the ninth National Assembly will quicken the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
He made this known when he received the chief executive officer of the ExxonMobil Group of Companies, Pul McGrath who led the team of executives from the company to his office on Thursday. Lawan recalled that several attempts had been made by previous assemblies, but the PIB was not passed.
