The Senate has resolved to adopt manual voting for the consideration of the State Police Bill after the electronic voting device developed technical issues during plenary on Wednesday.
The decision followed concerns that some lawmakers could be disenfranchised if the chamber proceeded with the faulty device.
Under the manual voting arrangement, each senator will stand up, announce his or her name, and openly state his or her position on the proposed bill for establishing state police.
The motion for the adoption of manual voting was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by Minority Leader Abba Moro.
Lawmakers said the approach would ensure that no senator is excluded from the process while also making each senator’s position on the state police bill known to their constituents.
Meanwhile, dignitaries, including the Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani, the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun; the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; and the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, had earlier arrived at the Senate chambers to observe the Senate vote on the state police bill.
