The Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it generated N9.79 billion revenue between March and May.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday at Seme.
Kaila said the amount represented an increase of N7.6 billion compared to the N2.1 billion collected within the corresponding period in 2025.
”The figure translates to an impressive growth rate of 448 per cent,” Kaila said.
He attributed the achievement to strengthened compliance, stakeholder cooperation, anti-revenue leakage measures, and the deployment of the B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System.
”The dedication and vigilance demonstrated by officers and men of the command also contributed immensely to this performance,” the controller said.
He restated the command’s commitment to sustaining the gains through institutional reforms, intelligence-driven monitoring, and transparent trade procedures.
Kaila described the command as one of Nigeria’s most strategic and busiest land border formations, occupying a critical position in regional trade integration.
He said the command had sustained aggressive intelligence-led enforcement to combat economic sabotage, protect local industries, and enhance national security.
According to him, the command seized 1,000 parcels of Cannabis Sativa within the last three months.
He said the narcotic substance was prohibited under the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act and Section 245(1) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
”The seized narcotics are being processed for formal handover to the NDLEA for further investigation,” he said.
He added that the command intercepted unregistered pharmaceutical products, including codeine-based cough syrups and sexual enhancement drugs without NAFDAC certification.
Kaila said the items contravened the provisions of Section 55(1)(c) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
He listed the seized products to include 55 bottles of Ultimate Plus Maca Syrup and 88 packs of 99 Bullets Herbal Medicine.
He said others were 10 cartons of Ultimate Plus Maca Sildenafil Citrate and 14 cartons of Super Sexy Sildenafil Citrate.
According to him, the command also seized 14 cartons of Machine Man Sildenafil Citrate, Bottom Up Sildenafil Citrate, 100 packs of Tramaking, and 100 packs of Tempendol.
”These products will be formally handed over to NAFDAC for appropriate regulatory action,” Kaila said.
He said the command recorded significant seizures of other prohibited and restricted goods in separate enforcement operations.
According to him, the items seized include 2,000 bags of foreign parboiled rice and 340 kegs of 25 litres each of foreign vegetable oil.
He added that others were 103 kegs of 30 litres each of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 993 cartons of foreign spaghetti.
The controller further stated that the command also intercepted 250 bales of used clothing.
”The Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all the intercepted items is N501,845,772,” Kaila said.
He added that the seizures underscored the command’s zero-tolerance stance against smuggling and determination to protect the nation’s economy.
He warned smugglers and their collaborators that the command would not serve as a safe haven for illicit trade.
