Rwandan President Paul Kagame dismissed Public Service and Labor Minister Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya over ‘matters of accountability under investigation,’ barely a month after her appointment. Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente announced her dismissal on behalf of President Kagame, citing ongoing investigations into accountability issues.
Mujawamariya, who was appointed as the minister of public service on June 12, previously held the position of minister of environment. She has been a prominent figure in the Rwandan government for many years, also serving as the minister of gender and family promotion from 2011 to 2013 and as Rwanda’s ambassador to Russia.
The statement from the Prime Minister’s office highlighted that Mujawamariya’s removal from her position is directly related to the accountability issues currently under investigation. The government has not disclosed specific details regarding the nature of the investigations.
As one of the longest-serving public officials in Rwanda, Mujawamariya’s sudden dismissal marks a significant development in the country’s political landscape. Her extensive experience in various ministerial roles had made her a notable figure in Rwandan governance.
