Reps To Investigate N200b Allocated For 2023 Census

Reps to investigate N200b allocated for botched 2023 census

THE House of Representatives plans to investigate the allocation of N200 billion for the halted 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Subsequent to the passing of a resolution put forward by Clement Akanni (PDP-Osun), this occurred during the plenary session on Thursday.

Akanni said, “This figure, according to the minister, included Post-Census-Activities, adding that the National Population Commission (NPC) said, it spent about 200 billion to prepare for the 2023 population and housing census.”

He said that Buhari decided to put a stop to the exercise just a few days before he finished his term.

He emphasised the importance of supplying the country with precise and trustworthy population information for policymaking. As the motion was accepted, the house directed the Population Committee to summon the NPC’s Director-General to clarify the utilisation of the N200 billion allocated for the halted 2023 population and housing census.

The house is asking the committee to come back with their report in four weeks so we can move forward with the new laws.
