
THE Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun, on Friday, inducted 22 graduates of physiotherapy.
Speaking during the induction ceremony at university premises, Dr Opeyemi Idowu, Head of Department of Physiotherapy, said that the inductees were thoroughly bred to join the physiotherapy profession.
Idowu said that with training received, the inductees could compete with their peers in the world, charging them on the need to provide excellent services in the health sector.
He urged the inductees to engage in professional development and be professional in their conducts.
In his remarks, Prof. Olumide Olukanni, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, advised the inductees to embrace the diverse opportunities the physiotherapy profession was offering.
Olukanni also counselled them to be professional in their dealings and be a good ambassador of the university wherever they find themselves.
“Take advantage physiotherapy offers and use it for the benefit of mankind.
“Improve yourself on a daily basis and thrive to be an unlimited physiotherapist with unlimited knowledge,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, urged the inductees to always remember the valuable lessons they had received.
Represented by Prof. Vincent Uchechukwu, Chairman, Committee of Dean of the university, Akindele advised them to make excellence their watchword.
“Don’t forget the principle of hard work your lecturers and others impacted in you.
“We don’t expect less from you. Make excellence your watchword and always conduct yourself professionally.
“Be diligent in your Affairs and in all you do, do it to the glory of God,” he said.
In his address, Dr Ahmad Rufai, the Registrar, Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria, commended the university for producing quality physiotherapists on a yearly basis.
Rufai told the inductees to be focused and be determined to get to the peak of their career.
He, however, urged them to have an area of specialisation, adding that it is unethical not to have a specialised area as a physiotherapist.
“Area of specialisation will make you to be better,” he said.
Prof. Ganiyu Sokunbi, the induction keynote speaker, urged the inductees to embrace continued education and professional development.
Sokunbi, who spoke on the theme: “The Emerging Physiotherapist In An Unlimited World”, said that innovative tools needed to be embraced by the inductees in the “advancing world of technological advancement.”
The don said that continued education would afford the inductees to provide a high quality care for their patients.
Sokunbi, of the Physiotherapy Department, Bayero University, Kano, said there are many job opportunities for physiotherapist with the unfolding changes in the profession.
He also urged the inductees to associate and collaborate with other health professionals, noting that physiotherapy cannot operate in isolation. (NAN)
