Former Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez, believed the Reds can overturn a three-goal deficit and knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League when both teams clash tonight in the round of 16 second-leg tie at Santiago Bernabeu.
Benitez, a former Real Madrid head coach, believed it is not impossible for Liverpool to beat the La Liga champions in Spain.
Real Madrid thrashed Liverpool 5-2 in the Champions League round of 16 first-leg encounter at Anfield last month.
Speaking ahead of Real Madrid’s tie against Liverpool in Spain, Benitez wrote in the Times: “All hope is not lost – I should know [referring to Liverpool vs AC Milan 2005 UCL final]. Will it be very difficult for Liverpool to overturn Real Madrid’s lead and progress in the Champions League? Yes.
“Will it be impossible? No. Miracles can occur — as we know.”
