
The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has recovered stolen Toyota Matrix Vehicle, ash in colour with registration number KRJ 944 in Ikot Ekpene Local Government of the state.
DSP Timfon John, the command Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed this, in a statement, in Uyo on Thursday.
“The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has recorded yet another success in its ongoing efforts to tackle car theft and related crimes, following the recovery of a stolen Toyota Matrix vehicle in Ikot Ekpene,” John said.
She said that the operatives of the command in conjunction with other security agencies recovered the vehicle about 4 p.m on June 30 along the Ikot Ekpene-Umuahia Road
John said the driver had claimed to be a Naval officer when he was stopped by the police.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect could not provide satisfactory identification or documentation to support his claim.
“As the officers intensified questioning, the suspect suddenly fled into a nearby forest and efforts to apprehend him proved abortive,” John said.
She said that preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Rivers State.
“The Police Command in Rivers state was immediately contacted, a man (names withheld) came forward, presenting valid documents and confirming ownership of the car.
The Commissioner of Police, CP, Baba Azare, has commended the swift response of the patrol team.
Azare reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure the state was rid of criminals.
