The Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has detained three persons in connection with the persistent vandalism and theft of property belonging to the State Water Company.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo and made available to newsmen on Friday.
John stated that the suspects were apprehended between Thursday, August 18 and Thursday, August 21, following a thorough investigation based on credible information.
He added that the command’s operatives responded to a tip off regarding the theft of armoured cables from the water company’s property on Brooks Street in Uyo on August 18.
The command’s spokesperson added that the police team quickly mobilised, leading to the apprehension of two suspects at the scene.
“Following their arrest, the suspects confessed to the crime and provided information that led to the subsequent arrest of a third individual on August 21.
John added that the third suspect was identified and believed to be a suspected notorious member of a criminal gang.
According to her, the stolen armoured cables have been recovered.
She stated that the police were continuing their investigation and efforts were currently underway to apprehend more members of the syndicate.
John maintained that the suspects would be arraigned as soon as the investigation was completed.
