The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected armed robber, recovered a cut-to-size pistol and four live cartridges in Owo, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure by the command’s Spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
Jimoh said the 32-year-old suspect, a resident of Idasen Street, Owo, was arrested by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad during a stop-and-search along the Owo–Ute Road.
He said the arrest was effected at about 0500 hrs on Friday, Aug.7 when the operatives, who were on routine security patrol along the route, intercepted the suspect for a search.
“During the search, the operatives recovered one cut-to-size pistol and four rounds of live ammunition from his possession.
“The suspect was immediately taken into custody while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been secured as exhibits.
“His statement has also been obtained as detectives intensify efforts to establish the source of the weapon and his intended use of the firearm.
“The detectives are also investigating his connection to any robbery, kidnapping or other criminal activities within Owo and its environs,” the spokesperson said.
He said the command would continue to sustain intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and other proactive security measures, particularly along major highways and identified crime-prone locations.
Jimoh, therefore, assured the public of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“We will continue to deploy intelligence, visibility patrols and community-based policing strategies towards maintaining peace and security across the state,” the spokesperson said.
