Police arrest 5 over alleged ATM-fraud

The Rivers Police command have arrested five suspects linked to an alleged fraud syndicate in Port Harcourt.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

She said investigations followed an April 26 report by one Rosemary Vincent.

Vincent alleged that her house help, Praise Sampson, was involved in the incident.

Investigators found Sampson was lured into a taxi by two suspects and coerced into releasing her employer’s ATM cards.

“Suspects forced her and withdrew N4.6 million using the cards,” Agabe said.

She said operatives from Choba Division launched a coordinated operation, leading to the suspects’ arrest.

Agabe linked the suspects to fraud and violent crimes across Port Harcourt, adding investigations remained ongoing.

Commissioner of Police in Rivers, Olugbenga Adepoju, urged residents to protect banking details and avoid suspicious vehicles.
